On 20 June 2024, entrepreneurs, consultants and experts from a wide range of industries met in the picturesque municipality of St. Johann im Pongau to take part in a special event: the networking breakfast of the UBIT Experts Groups "Cooperation and Networks" and "CSR and Sustainability".

The event, supported by the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, offered a platform for an intensive exchange on the integration of sustainability and social responsibility into the business strategies of modern companies.

Gregor Wimmer, founder of HERZBLUAT Unternehmensberatung and certified expert in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), together with Armin Ziesemer, provided the impetus and moderated the event.

Why this S in ESG is crucial - Black Edition

The importance of ESG in corporate strategy

The S in ESG is the key to long-term corporate success

In his opening speech, Gregor Wimmer laid the foundation for the day by discussing the growing importance of ESG criteria (environmental, social, governance) for companies.

While ecological sustainability ("E") and good corporate governance ("G") are often at the centre of the discussion, Wimmer deliberately placed the social component ("S") at the forefront.

"The 'S' in ESG is the key to long-term corporate success," emphasised Wimmer, explaining how social responsibility not only helps to improve the company's image, but also has a direct impact on employee satisfaction, customer loyalty and ultimately profitability.

Why this "S" in ESG is decisive

The "S" in ESG stands for Social Responsibility and covers a wide range of aspects, from workplace culture and fair working conditions to the company's impact on the communities in which it operates.

Gregor Wimmer made it clear that a strong social commitment is no longer just an ethical duty, but is increasingly becoming a decisive competitive advantage. "Companies that take their social responsibility seriously not only attract talented employees, but also create stable long-term business relationships," said Wimmer.

At a time when transparency and ethical behaviour are becoming increasingly important, the "S" in ESG can make the difference between success and failure.

Practical insights and strategies for success:

Workshops and discussions

After the introductory keynote speech by Gregor Wimmer, the participants were led through an interactive World Café workshop that covered both theoretical concepts and practical applications of ESG principles.

The highlight was the "Black Edition" format.

The workshop "Black Edition"

Provocative approaches for sustainable solutions

The deliberately provocative "Black Edition" workshop offered participants the unique opportunity to explore the dark side of corporate management - but with a positive goal in mind.

The task was to develop scenarios that show how destructive behaviour can quickly drive a company to ruin.

Wimmer and Ziesemer led the group through hypothetical scenarios in which deliberate misbehaviour such as destroying trust, stirring up fear and pressure or splitting teams was simulated.

This exercise impressively illustrated how fragile social structures in companies can be and how quickly they can be destabilised by poor leadership.

Convert negative to positive

However, the actual aim of the workshop was to draw positive conclusions from these negative examples.

Wimmer showed how sustainable and more resilient structures can be created by reversing these destructive practices.

The participants worked together to develop strategies on how companies can not only survive, but even thrive through strong social responsibility and a positive corporate culture.

Marketing, sustainability and social responsibility

Sustainable business models - customised, practice-oriented

Gregor Wimmer has been involved with CSR and sustainable business models for many years.

His expertise goes far beyond theoretical concepts - Wimmer is a practitioner who has proven his skills in a wide range of industries.

From advising global market leaders to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - his approaches are always customised and practice-oriented.

Sustainability as a corporate philosophy

For Wimmer, sustainability is more than just a buzzword - it is a basic philosophy that should permeate all elements of a company.

At the networking breakfast, he emphasised the need to not only focus business models on short-term success, but to develop long-term, future-proof strategies.

He paid particular attention to the development of "grandchildren-friendly" business models - Concepts that are not only viable and sustainable for today's generation, but also for future generations.

Marketing and CSR: a successful symbiosis

Another important point that Wimmer emphasised was the symbiosis between effective marketing and CSR.

Thanks to his many years of experience in marketing, Wimmer knows how important it is that sustainability efforts are not only practised internally, but also communicated externally.

"A company that does not communicate its CSR measures clearly and convincingly is missing the opportunity to strengthen its brand and set itself apart from the competition," says Wimmer.

He showed how targeted marketing strategies can not only improve the company's image, but also strengthen the trust of customers and partners.

Networking and exchange: a strong basis for the future

In addition to the intensive workshops and presentations, the networking breakfast offered plenty of opportunity for dialogue and networking.

Participants from a wide range of fields - from management consultants and politicians to representatives from the business world - took the opportunity to make contacts, exchange ideas and discuss potential collaborations.

The personal exchange was supported by the pleasant atmosphere and the hospitality of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, which organised the event professionally and cordially.

Future events: Sustainability as a perennial favourite

The networking breakfast in St. Johann im Pongau was just the start of a series of events focussing on sustainability and social responsibility.

The UBIT Expert Groups "Networks and Cooperations" and "CSR and Sustainability" are already planning further events in Salzburg and Zell am See, which will again focus on practical solutions and the exchange of best practices.

These events not only offer valuable insights, but also the opportunity to become part of a growing network of companies and experts working together towards a more sustainable future.
